Albany Area Schools previews 2026–27 calendar with start before Labor Day

District staff proposed a 2026–27 calendar with a first day before Labor Day (Sept. 2, 2026), entrance conferences on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 counting as student contact days, and graduation on May 28, 2026.
District calendar planner Laura Roelike presented the proposed 2026–27 calendar to the board. Roelike said "the first day of school would be prior to Labor Day Sept 2nd, 2026," and noted entrance conferences on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 would count as student contact days where they had not previously.
The proposal also sets graduation for May 28, 2026. The calendar preview was presented for feedback; no formal adoption occurred at the work session and the board plans to share the recommendations in upcoming staff and community meetings.
