Council presses agency for district fines, agency says some fines held in abeyance

Vice Chair Sydney Harrison told the agency she had been inundated with constituent calls and said she had received a report of a truck operating with a single worker. "I just got a text this morning that there was 1 person driving a trash truck stopping at everyone's house. No employees on the truck," Harrison said as an example of performance concerns and asked whether fines had been issued or waived.
Director Andrea Crooms responded that the department did not waive fines. "Fines for the month of July are being held in abeyance but can be issued if people do not meet full contract standards in the month of August," she said, and added that some haulers had already received large fines in June — in some cases "over $70,000." Council members requested a district‑level list of fines and a recent 311 complaint count to verify whether performance is improving.
