Principals warn of falling enrollment, attendance and test performance at Westwood elementary and intermediate schools

The principals’ presentations flagged decreasing enrollment in some grades, attendance patterns affecting classroom instruction and students’ standing in reading and math assessments. District staff said those data points will inform plans the board will review at its regular meeting on April 16, 2026. The presentations were delivered to Superintendent Dr. Stiles X. Simmons and senior administrators in attendance.
Board members did not take formal action at the work study session but directed that the findings be included in the April 16 packet for possible follow-up. The district’s next step is to place related items on the regular meeting agenda for consideration and potential policy or staffing responses.
