County commissioners and stormwater staff told the Jan. 12 meeting they applied for a Lake Erie Community Grant to address a culvert and roadway failure that has effectively drained Brentwood Lake for 15–16 years and left the subdivision with limited access and public‑safety concerns.
Don Romancak, Stormwater Coordinator, said the $1.6 million scope includes installing a culvert, reconstructing roadway access, stream cleanup and invasive species treatment. The proposal pairs $750,000 expected from the Ohio Lake Erie Commission Community program with $850,000 anticipated from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) and local match sources, which the transcript notes will include staff salary and stormwater funds. Romancak estimated a roughly three‑year process: OPWC contract eligibility begins July 1, 2027 and construction must be completed within 18 months of contract authorization.
Resident Jared Smith and Carlisle Township trustees backed the application at the meeting, describing senior residents and a group home in the affected neighborhood and saying emergency access is constrained by the current roadway configuration. Commissioner Gallagher and staff said they secured support letters from local entities including schools, county departments and Rumpke, and thanked county staff for moving the application quickly.
