Board hears timeline for negotiations with SPSSA and SEIU Local 1

Labor relations staff told the board on March 11 that two bargaining unit contracts will be opened this year and gave expected timelines and affected employee counts.
Ms. Tiffany Pruitt said the SPSSA agreement (26 employees, administrative assistants) expires June 30, 2026, and negotiations will begin immediately and continue until a tentative agreement is reached and ratified. She said, "SPSSA current bargain agreement expires June 30, 2026 (26 employees; administrative assistants). Negotiations beginning Monday with SPSSA until a tentative agreement is reached and ratified by their union, then we will come before the board for final approval."
Ms. Pruitt also briefed the board that the SEIU Local 1 contract (about 160 employees: 72 maintenance, custodial and grounds; 88 foodservice) expires August 31, 2026, with negotiations scheduled to start in May 2026. Board members pressed administration about fiscal constraints; administration committed "not to negotiate the district into a deficit" and said it would present options should negotiations threaten budget stability.
