Nancy Wildey, Westwood Heights School District Food Service Director, told the Board the district is updating menus to eliminate synthetic and petroleum-based dyes from school foods in response to a stated national mandate.
Wildey said the district will introduce new dye-free sandwiches and wraps — including a chicken jalapeño cream-cheese option and an Italian three-wrap — and replace synthetic sweeteners with natural alternatives such as honey. She noted some recipes, including the chicken entrée, were created by staff and have state approval. Wildey emphasized accommodation for students with allergies and special diets (celiac, diabetes, dairy restrictions) and said plant-based options remain available on request.
