Freeland Board opts into Schools of Choice for Young‑Five through 2nd grade for 2026–27; cap to be set in March

At the Feb. 18 meeting the Freeland Board of Education adopted two resolutions to participate in the Schools of Choice program for Young‑Five through second‑grade students for the 2026–27 school year. Board member Lisa Knoerr moved both resolutions; Member Jeffrey Kipfmiller supported them and both motions carried 5-0.
The first resolution exercises the option permitted by Section 105 of the State School Aid Act of 1979 (as amended) to accept applications from nonresident Young‑Five through second‑grade students within the Saginaw Intermediate School District. The second resolution opts into Section 105c (added by Public Act 119 of 1999) to accept nonresident Young‑Five through second‑grade students who live outside the Saginaw ISD in contiguous districts. The minutes record that limited openings will apply and that the board will set a cap at the March Regular Board Meeting.
