Freeland Board approves agenda, consent items including $2.13M expenditures; hears esports presentation

At its Feb. 18 meeting the Freeland Board approved the agenda and consent items (including $2,127,137.11 in expenditures), approved a slate of new FMS/FHS courses, heard a high school esports presentation and adopted Schools of Choice resolutions for Young-Five–2nd grade for 2026–27.
The Freeland Community School District Board of Education convened at 6:00 p.m. Feb. 18 at Freeland High School. President Kristin Anderson called the meeting to order; five board members were present and the board approved the posted agenda and consent agenda on 5-0 votes.
The consent agenda included approval of the Feb. 17 special meeting minutes and expenditures totaling $2,127,137.11. Member Jeffrey Kipfmiller moved to approve the agenda and Member Lisa Knoerr seconded; both the agenda and the consent items were carried on unanimous rolls. The meeting record lists correspondence noting retirements from Alisha Albrecht, Scott Harrison and Dawn Meitler and a resignation from Lily Herbstreith.
The board also heard a presentation on the high school Esports program from High School Teacher Jon Lelo and students, and received an update from Superintendent Marcus Hillborg on strategic planning. Board members discussed a possible date change for the March regular meeting but took no action. The meeting adjourned at 6:46 p.m.
