Selection committee convenes closed session under Virginia FOIA, certifies compliance upon return to open meeting

The Student Selection Committee moved March 30, 2026, to convene in a closed meeting under § 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Code of Virginia to conduct interviews of applicants for the 2026–27 student representative positions; the motion was made by Dr. Nancy Dye, seconded by J. Pearson, and passed unanimously. After the vote the livestream for the meeting was suspended.
Dr. Dye later moved the certification required by § 2.2-3712 of the Code of Virginia that the closed meeting "was conducted in conformity with Virginia law" and that only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously when the meeting returned to open session. The minutes note the committee resumed the livestream and then adopted the certification resolution.
