Amy Sebring, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, delivered the 15‑minute overview and said the proposed ranges reflect state compensation pressures, inflationary costs and the university’s strategic priorities. The presentation noted that the university will use Funds for the Future to shelter undergraduate families with incomes below $115,000 from net price increases.
Sebring summarized institutional trends showing that state support has declined in inflation‑adjusted terms and that tuition remains the primary source of operating revenue for educational programs. "For FY27, the university administration is modeling increases in tuition and E&G fees from 0 to 2.9 percent," the presentation said, and listed the Comprehensive Fee range as "$0 – $160." The slides also cited that Virginia Tech has maintained lower mandatory non‑E&G fees than many public four‑year institutions in the commonwealth.
The public comment period for the Board’s tuition consideration remains open: the BOV accepted written comments through April 6, 2026, and the board is scheduled to consider and act on tuition and fees at its regular meeting on April 14, 2026. Administrators said all submitted comments will be provided to board members and entered into the public record.
