Howell superintendent, trustees criticize state inaction on school safety‑funding tradeoffs

Superintendent Dr. MacGregor told the board he was "hopeful there will be a resolution soon" while expressing frustration that recent state legislation has put school districts in a difficult position of weighing school safety, mental health services and school funding. The superintendent framed his remarks as concern that districts are forced into tradeoffs by legislative changes.
Trustee Mr. Bedford echoed the concern and criticized the Legislature's pace. "Not resolving this, or 'dragging their feet', is disappointing," he said, adding that many districts were put in a tight spot. President Ms. Tarara and other trustees affirmed the district's continued focus on student well‑being and fiscal responsibility as they discussed recent school visits and district finances.
