Subgroup urges PGCPS to engage in planning referrals so development includes sidewalk improvements

Irv Beckert urged PGCPS to be an active participant in the planning-and-development referral process so the school system can request off-site sidewalk and connectivity requirements as part of development conditions. "Representatives from Prince George's County Public Schools can be part of that mandatory referral process, and they should be looking at imposing some off-site sidewalk requirements," he said.

Speakers noted that including PGCPS earlier in the planning and capital-construction processes produces better results than retrofitting later. Sharoskar Coleman said each new school must include a pedestrian safety plan, but administrative procedures and the pedestrian-safety plan's radius sometimes do not match, creating gaps that need resolving through earlier, cross-agency coordination.
