PGCPS adds two 'safe passage' coordinator positions to boost school pedestrian safety

Sharoskar Coleman, chief operating officer for PGCPS, announced the district is establishing two safe passage coordinator positions to strengthen coordination with county agencies on pedestrian safety. "Prince George's County Public Schools is now establishing 2 safe passage coordinator positions to really assist with the proactive coordination with county government agencies around this notion of pedestrian safety," Coleman said.
Coleman and other PGCPS officials cautioned that the district needs to develop internal capacity and standardized audit tools before committing to fixed annual targets for walk audits. "I don't feel like we're at a point to set a target as yet," Coleman said, explaining the importance of building a consistent process and staffing model before mobilizing to reach a given number of audits per year.
