Shade Tree and Environmental commissions propose small pocket park, bench and free library at Chestnut site

The speaker proposed using a small locked pocket lot on Chestnut Street—the site of an Arbor Day tree planted in 2025—as a Chestnut Street park, opening the gate during set hours (by ordinance) so residents could sit and use the bench. "Their friends donated to us, over $1,600. We're also going to to get a bench for, for Tara," the commission member said. She asked the township to consider using Open Space Grant funds for improvements and invited the committee to discuss opening the gate and possible hours.
The chair signaled support for further discussion, asking staff to schedule the idea for the next meeting and inviting the commission to make a formal presentation. The commission also suggested locating a small free library in the pocket lot to serve pedestrians on Chestnut.
