Clayton Whittemore, a Selectboard member, moved to "suspend Matt Hill, the Animal Control Officer pending the outcome of the charges against him," a motion the board approved after a brief executive session on July 16, 2025. Tim Bullard seconded the motion. The meeting minutes record the executive session ran from 2:04 p.m. to 2:16 p.m. and that a letter will be sent to Hill notifying him of the suspension.
The emergency meeting, convened at 2:00 p.m., followed an executive session held under VSA 313(a)(3) to "discuss the appointment, employment, or evaluation of a public officer or employee." The minutes note that the Selectboard recognizes that Hill also serves as a constable and that the board "has no authority over an elected official," but proceeded with a suspension of his duties as Animal Control Officer pending resolution of the charges. The board said it will look for an interim Animal Control Officer in the meantime.
