Price County updates plans for Steve Creek and Cranberry Creek dam projects; DNR review awaited

Forestry Administrator Joe Grapa briefed the committee on two dam projects at the March 10 meeting. For Steve Creek Dam, plans have been submitted and the new design would use part of Wolf Creek Lane as part of the dike; the Town of Kennan signed a road easement allowing the county to maintain a higher road elevation in that area. Grapa said some pool-level data must be redone and the project cannot be bid until the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) approves the plans.
On Cranberry Creek Dam, engineering work has been completely redone and submitted to the DNR for review. The committee noted that costs have increased since engineering was done in 2018 and that the Cranberry Creek Dam grant dates from five years ago, raising concerns about current grant sufficiency.
