The Village of Milan Board of Trustees authorized up to $150,000 to extend a concrete parking and storage area at the Public Works complex after staff said materials stored near the wastewater treatment plant must be moved ahead of construction. Steve Gibson, who led the presentation for village staff, said the work will include base material, grading, concrete, and fences and that the village’s crews will perform the concrete work in-house.
"It's budgeted for $150,000," Gibson said, outlining that the appropriation covers rock, grading, concrete, an extra set of gates and fencing. Trustees discussed holding back a portion of the fencing authorization until more precise bids are available; Gibson said fencing is part of the budget but not required for immediate approval. A trustee moved to authorize the budgeted amount; the motion was seconded and carried in a roll call vote.
The item responds to the contractor’s accelerated schedule for a renovation at the treatment plant that will use the fenced area for staging and trailers. Staff said the new Public Works site will be a permanent storage solution once the treatment-plant construction is complete and that moving materials now will avoid project delays.
