Yakima workshop framed a 10-year vision for Washington emergency management

Glenn Woodbury presented the Yakima workshop report, describing a one-day visioning exercise held April 21 with about 45 emergency management leaders and partners. "We held the workshop April 21. We met, for about, 6 hours, about 45 participants of emergency management leaders," he said, and summarized themes including funding instability, uneven local capacity, heavy administrative burden for grants, and a need to elevate recovery alongside response.
Workshop participants used a 2036 visioning exercise to identify desirable long-term outcomes (recognition of emergency management as a core public function, sustainable funding, and stronger statewide networks) and then worked backward to midterm and near-term actions. The EMC discussed next steps including convening a core group to keep momentum and tasking the Emergency Management Advisory Group with drafting a baseline capability definition.
