Brown County adopts tighter rules for transfer-station materials, bans large tarps unless cut

The Brown County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a new Solid Waste Department policy that changes how materials brought to the county transfer station and C&D area are handled. Solid Waste Director Brandon Rader told the board the policy gives the director discretion to accept materials and to allow reuse or repurposing of items left for disposal.
The adopted policy includes a specific restriction on large tarps: “Industrial size grain cover tarps will no longer be accepted at the transfer station unless cut into 6 feet or less widths, rolled up tightly, and secured,” the policy states. Chairman Lucas Heinen moved to approve the policy; Commissioner William Pollock seconded and the motion carried.
Rader also updated the commission on operational concerns including solid tires for a backhoe, the road to the construction-and-demolition pit, and the condition of the tipping floor. Following that discussion the board approved the Solid Waste 2nd quarter tonnage report by motion of Commissioner Richard Tesoriero, seconded by Commissioner Pollock.
The policy will be effective immediately as adopted by the county; the minutes record no additional implementation timeline or required signage.
