FMAC praises volunteer Team Rubicon work, asks board for small event funds

Paul Yingling, a member of the Fire Mitigation Advisory Committee, thanked the board for support of a recent Team Rubicon volunteer event and described the scale of work delivered. "We put 30 sawyers in the field over 2 days... That's about $10,000 worth of work, and we did it for a $100 of public funds," Yingling said, noting that neighbors from across Colorado participated and were well hosted by local volunteers.
Yingling said FMAC is working with town staff to clarify its budget line and access procedures for funds already allocated through the Kirkpatrick Family Fund Fire Mitigation Grant. He said FMAC is not currently seeking money outside its approved work plan but will present a detailed budget for an estimated June firefighter appreciation event that would cost about $1,000. "We'll have a proposal by the next board meeting," Yingling told trustees.
Trustees pressed for clarity on whether additional FMAC costs would come from the Kirkpatrick fund or the town general budget. One trustee noted there was no line item specifically labeled for FMAC in the 2025 budget and suggested staff check with the grantor before approving extra expenditures from grant funds. Town staff and the mayor said they would investigate whether Kirkpatrick funds may be used for the proposed hospitality event or whether the board would need to approve an ad-hoc expense.
