The Technology Services Board approved a bundle of statewide policies and enterprise service standards at its June meeting, including an updated open data program policy and enterprise standards for network connectivity, secure connections, systems integration and telephony.
Chair Bill Kehoe told the board the standards are intended to reduce duplication and security risk while moving several services to consistent statewide models. “These are really, really important, standards and policies to move forward, and I appreciate your engagement and approving these for the state,” he said.
The open data program policy aims to make agency-published information easier for the public to find by linking datasets to the state portal (data.wa.gov) and by encouraging a maturity-based approach rather than a blanket requirement. The enterprise service standards formalize commonly used services (wireless, cloud connectivity, wide area network access, DNS) and include limited exemptions where agencies have specific needs.
Board materials and the presenters emphasized that the policies have already been vetted through agency review, subcommittee review and the Technology Management Council. The board approved the package on a single motion rather than separate roll-call votes for each policy.
Next steps: staff will publish the approved package and begin agency outreach for implementation guidance and any limited exemptions that agencies may request.
