Title 1 funds to support 42 school positions and district projects, presenter says

Presenter Jenny Darigan told the committee Title 1 dollars largely fund school-level positions (about 42 fully or partially funded roles) and district projects including a coordinator, homeless program and parent engagement; equitable share for nonpublics was listed as not applicable this year after two nonpublic schools left Lewiston.
During the ESEA presentation, Jenny Darigan outlined how the district plans to use Title 1 funds, saying "more than 90, I should get the percentage, probably 96% of our Title 1 money is right at school school levels" and that 42 positions are currently fully or partially funded through Title 1.
Darigan listed school-level supports such as math interventionists, literacy interventionists, reading recovery teachers, literacy and math coaches, professional development and instructional supplies. At the district level she said projects include a coordinator role, an obligation to serve nonpublic schools when applicable ("equitable share") and a homeless program and parent engagement project. She noted equitable share was not applicable this year because two nonpublic schools that had participated moved out of Lewiston.
The presenter also summarized Title 2 (professional development and supports for teachers), Title 3 (multilingual supplemental services) and Title 4 (enrichment activities such as a district instrument program and SEL work). Committee members thanked staff for the work that goes into CNAs and the application.
