Rangely supervisors say town website now largely meets state accessibility standards, staff to monitor compliance

Supervisor Jeanie reported that Rangely’s municipal website has been updated to meet state accessibility guidelines and that staff will handle accessibility requests that arrive by email.
"Every picture that you have on the website has to have text," Jeanie said, describing how screen readers require image descriptions and how the town runs PDFs through CommonLook to improve readability. She told the council the site currently meets nearly all requirements and that staff will maintain the site and address issues within a few days when notified.
Jeanie also outlined related community-branding efforts tied to the site: updated conference-room photos printed on glass, a hometown-hero banner program and planned grant-funded improvements for Main Street. She said the town’s Discover Rangely pages already met many guidelines and estimated the web-accessibility work reached about "99.7%" of the state standard.
In addition, Jeanie described work on a RARE grant and a pitch competition the town plans to launch around April 1 to attract new businesses; she said 6–8 businesses had already expressed interest. Council members asked about time commitments and ongoing maintenance; Jeanie said she spends short, regular intervals maintaining the site and will present a proposed accessibility plan to the manager for formal review.
