Riverside water company asks Box Elder County for CDBG funds to retrofit irrigation well

Box Elder County held a public hearing on Nov. 19 to solicit input for an application to the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities program. Neil Capener, representing Riverside North Garland Water Company, told commissioners: "We would like to request funding from the CDBG." The meeting took place in the Commission Chambers in Brigham City.
Erin Lane, a Riverside resident who said she volunteered to assist with the application, said the group attended required training and is preparing paperwork for the regional office. On the likely size of the request she said, "it has to be under 200,000," and added the project estimate will be "between 100 and 190" (thousand), depending on final budgets and other funding sources. The commissioners noted the application will require demographic and socioeconomic survey data to demonstrate eligibility.
The request centers on converting a recently purchased irrigation well to culinary (drinking) water service to provide hookups for housing and possible community facilities. Commissioners said they would work with the applicants to gather needed information and indicated a second public hearing will be scheduled to advance any formal application.
