In remarks setting the council’s priorities for the next term, Mayor Mary Young said the city expects a settlement between BACMED and Valero that she said will bring $64,000,000 into the community. She said the city will need a process to develop and vet project ideas, suggesting formation of a citizen commission focused on projects addressing air quality and public health.
"There is a settlement with, between BACMED and Valero, which is going to bring $64,000,000 into the community," Young said. She listed major capital matters she expects the council to pursue in the coming years, including completion of the pedestrian bridge, rebuilding the raw-water transmission line, and possible port electrification. She also warned that state water proposals could cut water delivered to Solano County by as much as 75% and said the city’s representatives are working on alternatives.
Young said she will appoint council members to a new budget committee to tackle structural budget issues and develop spending priorities for the settlement funds and other projects.
