Committee advances bill restricting state certifications to entities supporting designated groups

Chairman Cipicchi described House Bill 18-84 as a measure to prevent corporate entities from providing material support or resources to organizations found to engage in terrorism or that receive support from designated entities. "It prohibits a state agency from issuing or renewing a certification, a registration, a license or a permit to [a corporate] entity if an officer, director or employee of that corporation provides material support," the sponsor said.
Members added a rewrite amendment and, after no substantive questions, the committee voted 8-0 to advance the bill to full state and local. The sponsor told members the bill focuses on enforcement and does not change existing law except to create a clearer enforcement mechanism; agency and AG's office witnesses were available for questions if members sought more detail at later stages.
