City park moves forward; committee chose rubber mulch to cut costs, Run the Dam agreement extended

Councilmember Brian Buche told the council the Park Committee voted to use rubber mulch as fall protection under playground equipment, at an estimated cost of approximately $20,000, rather than the Forever Lawn option priced at roughly $60,000. Installation of playground equipment is expected to begin in one to two weeks.
Separately, the council approved an extension of the Electric City Park Build Grant Agreement with Run the Dam, a nonprofit community organization, extending the agreement through Dec. 31, 2026 (M/S Gilbert/Redfield) recorded as carried unanimous. Council requested a park committee representative to present at the August council meeting an update on funds spent, funds still needed and an estimated timeline for completion.
City staff also noted related grant activity, including the RCO $575,000 grant and TIB application timelines, which are relevant to park funding plans.
