At the start of public presentations, Janelle Jeffries of the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Utah introduced the club's Youth of the Year speakers and invited county officials to the legislative breakfast. Teen Alora Gomez delivered a speech about personal hardship, recovery and the role the club played in her life.
Alora described losing her brother to an overdose and surviving domestic violence in her family. "My name is Alora Gomez, and I am the youth of the year representing the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Utah from the Logan teen club," she said, adding that the club provided a space where she felt included and supported. Commissioners praised her speech: the Chair said he was "very, very proud of you" and noted the example she sets for other young people in Box Elder County.
The commission thanked both Alora and Janelle for attending and noted the club's role supporting youth across the county.
