The board approved a memorandum of understanding with Coastline to bring a grant‑funded driver education course to Vasquez High School at no cost to eligible students. Superintendent Dr. Sahakian described the opportunity as stemming from contacts made at the CSBA conference and said the district will be part of Coastline’s scope of work if the MOU is signed.
Trustees voiced support for the program; one trustee said Coastline had taught their children and offered a positive reference. The MOU was approved by roll call with unanimous ayes. The agreement will enable Vasquez students who meet age and eligibility requirements to access instruction without district tuition expense.
"We're on the momentum with, you know, fantastic opportunities for our students...if we sign this MOU, we'll be part of their scope of work and support, for driver's ed to Vasquez," Dr. Sahakian said during the presentation.
