Council postpones library-board reappointment after questions about attendance and large expenditure

Supporters of the mayor’s nominee pushed back, saying the mayor had confidence in the appointee and that the council should not override the mayor’s choice based on one person’s account. The council discussed options and then voted to postpone the reappointment to a date-certain, Dec. 16, to allow staff to confirm attendance records and gather input from library-board members. The motion to postpone carried on a voice vote.
The original item was to reappoint Sheila Gorski Scholte to a five-year term; council did not take a final vote on the reappointment during the meeting and set the item for further review. The mayor and other council members indicated willingness to discuss the matter with board members prior to the next meeting.
