Laredo ISD salutes Amber Holmes, Army veteran and assistant city attorney

Laredo ISD honored Amber Holmes on-air for her service in the U.S. Army and her work as an assistant city attorney for the City of Laredo.
Holmes, who served in the Army from 2001 to 2005, told students she joined after talking with a recruiter because she did not have the resources or family guidance to fund college. "They offered you money for college...so I said, okay. I guess I'll go into the army," she said, describing education funding as the primary reason she enlisted.
The district noted Holmes trained as a linguist, learned Russian and attended interrogation school. She recounted struggling in interrogation training until an instructor advised her to "lean into what you're good at," advice Holmes said she still uses in her legal career.
Holmes later earned a Juris Doctor degree at Saint Mary's University in San Antonio and has practiced law for more than a decade. She told students that military service opened opportunities—housing assistance and education benefits—that helped her establish a career and encouraged young people with limited means to consider short-term service as one pathway to higher education.
The district presenter closed the recognition by thanking Holmes and saluting her for her service to the country.
