City staff paused Monday to honor the memory of Theodore D. "Teddy" Rainey, a community partner recognized by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Opportunities for his work with local young people.
"Tonight's city council spotlight honoree is Theodore d Rainey," Gabe Diaz of the Department of Equity and Inclusion said, noting Rainey's contributions to mentoring, athletic opportunities and community programs. Diaz told the council Rainey helped students gain college lacrosse opportunities and that Rainey's family was in attendance.
Council remarks included an apology from the mayor to Rainey's family for a prior casual encounter and an expression of the city's gratitude for Rainey's service. The program framed Rainey's legacy as one of building opportunities and supporting young people who face barriers.
