Council defers some appointments and confirms two members of Hampton VA 250 committee; new assistant city manager introduced

The council deferred appointments to the Hampton Bridal Response Team Advisory Committee and the Citizens Police Advisory Group to the Dec. 11, 2024 meeting. The council then approved the appointment of Tim Russ and Sarah Martin to fill unexpired terms on the Hampton VA 250 committee through Oct. 31, 2026.
"I move that we defer the appointments to the Hampton Bridal Response Team Advisory Committee and the Citizens Police Advisory Group until the 12/11/2024 meeting," a council member moved; the motion was seconded and passed with recorded ayes.
Later in the meeting City Manager Mary Bunton introduced Kwesi Obeng, the city's new assistant city manager who began work the prior week and will oversee the public safety and human services cluster. Obeng said he was honored to join Hampton, cited his prior work as chief of staff for DeKalb County, and described his commitment to the community.
