"I'm gonna talk to you about a concern and conversation that I have had with people in my community, and that is about automation or robotic services in Hampton or the possibility of increasing the type of services here in Hampton," Janine said during the public-comment period. She asked whether the city has strategies to create new jobs if automation replaces existing local positions and suggested the council consider plans to create employment opportunities when technological change reduces labor demand.
Mayor Tuck and council members acknowledged the concern but did not announce a new policy at the meeting. The city manager later said automation and workforce issues are longer-term topics the council will continue to address in coordination with economic development staff.
