Taylor City Council authorized procurement of a Tesla Cybertruck not to exceed $84,750, to be paid from a community energy management grant. Police staff described the truck's ballistic protection, payload and charging capacity, and said the vehicle meets operational needs for drone deployment and equipment storage. "There's ballistic protection on the Cybertruck," the police representative said while outlining operational reasons for the selection.
Several council members and residents questioned whether the truck could be serviced locally and whether other electric vehicles could offer similar capability; one resident noted the closest dealer would be in Ann Arbor or Southfield and warned that the Cybertruck may require flatbed transport rather than being towed. A recorded roll-call vote showed four members in favor and two opposed (motion passed 4–2).
