The council approved awarding KAB Enterprises the low bid to install three pickleball courts at Heritage Park for $354,301 plus a 3% contingency (total not to exceed $364,931), funded through capital outlay and the Wayne County parks millage. Staff described the work to include concrete, drainage, fencing, benching and painting to USA Pickleball standards.
Councilmembers raised questions about the cost and about concurrent park needs such as the dog park and repairs to the basketball court. Parks staff said broken backboards have been ordered and that fencing decisions will balance safety concerns and visual impacts. On schedule, staff said courts could be completed this fall if curing and weather permit; otherwise, fencing and concrete would be completed with painting deferred until spring.
