Benicia proclaims Nov. 14 Ruby Bridges Day; library to host related children’s program

Jennifer Baker, identified in remarks as the library’s director, described the Nov. 12 event as an afternoon of information, crafts and snacks where children can “create a sign that they can then carry with them on their walk to school on Thursday.” Community volunteer Kishana Harmon Lee, who helped organize earlier walks, said the recognition grew from students’ questions about why Bridges was not widely taught and praised community support for the Walk to School program. “It’s very important that we keep our students and our children uplifted,” she said.
