Residents press council on Michigan Transportation Fund dollars and contractor suspension during public comment

Several residents used the public-comment period to press the council about funding sources and contractor eligibility for the Morton View Drive rehabilitation project. One resident, Kathy Witt, asked whether MTF (Michigan Transportation Fund) includes federal dollars and said the city would need to rescind the contract if federal money governed eligibility and the contractor remained suspended.
Witt told the council: “I'm asking you to look into MTF, which is Michigan Transportation Fund, and to find out if federal money goes in there. Because if it does, you are going to have to resend that contract.” Another resident, Tim Wong, questioned whether the council had read contracts before approving them, asking, “Did you guys read the whole thing? Every word, every line?”
Mayor and staff responses were limited: the mayor said he did not know the suspension timing and advised emailing or contacting the company, and staff said they would not enter an agreement if there were an issue. A council member later read publicly available summary language about Michigan Transportation Fund and Act 51, noting MTF is constitutionally dedicated to transportation with revenues from motor fuel and registration taxes and other sources; the council did not take immediate corrective action during the meeting.
