Commissioner Alex Garza told the council District 14 received $180,000 in Wayne County Community Impact funds and presented $50,000 to Taylor North Little League to support youth programming.
"We were awarded a $180,000 to District 14 from the county ... and now we are able to present them with a $50,000 check from the county," Garza said. Doug, representing Taylor North, said the money will allow the league to offer free registration for every registered child and ease families' financial strain.
Garza framed the awards as part of a larger county initiative and said the district previously secured other funding for the league during his time as a state representative. The council recognized the presentation without further motion; the grant award itself originated from the county program rather than a council appropriation at this meeting.
The presentation was made during the council's consent/presentation period; Garza said the district had also previously obtained $300,000 for the league in earlier work with state lawmakers.
