Council approves appointments and routine personnel contract, faces library-board comment

The Taylor City Council on Dec. 16 approved a series of appointments and routine personnel actions, including the appointment of Eric Chotjian to the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority for a four-year term ending 10/07/2029 and the reappointment of Sheila Gorski Schulte to the library board for a five-year term to expire 12/02/2030.
Corey Morris, vice president of the library board, addressed the council before the reappointment vote, saying he had “spoken with numerous of you already on the council, including missing, 6 of the last 8 scheduled meetings of the library board,” and offering to answer questions about Schulte’s candidacy. After brief remarks from Morris and no further discussion from council, the motions to appoint and reappoint were approved by voice vote.
The council also approved a personal service contract for the chief of staff and authorized Gerald Thomas to serve as the council representative to the tax increment finance authority (TIFA) and Brownfield redevelopment authority until the end of his term. All items in this block were moved and seconded from the dais and carried without recorded roll-call opposition.
