Fire and police report monthly activity; fire department received grants exceeding $200,000

Fire Chief Brittian told the council the department handled 70 calls for service in September, including 50 EMS calls, and has started a high-school cadet program with three members. The department received two grants totaling more than $200,000 to replace fire hoses and to purchase a backup generator.
Police Chief Canady reported 167 calls for service last month with 28 arrests, two accidents and 75 tickets issued. Canady said the department will conduct rifle training soon and has inquired with the PUD about placing additional street lights in areas of town that need them.
