Surry County staff proposes first Dendron water rate increase since 2017

In its FY2026–27 presentation, county staff said the board will consider a first change since 2017 to the monthly base rate for the county-managed Town of Dendron water system. "For the 1st time since 2017, there is a recommendation of the monthly rate change for the, water system in the town of Dendron," Ms. Robbins said, adding that the proposed change is "$44 a month and to keep that $4 and 40, cents the same per 1,000 gallons over 3,000 gallons."
Robbins characterized the $44 monthly charge as a "stepping stone" and said rates may need to increase further in ensuing years to cover maintenance and operations, which the county manages. The change was presented as part of overall personnel, debt-service and revenue adjustments in the proposed consolidated budget.
