Midvale staff outline EPA deadline, inventory findings for lead and copper service lines

Bryton Mecham, Utility Water Quality & Regulatory Administrator, told the council that the Environmental Protection Agency requires every drinking-water system to submit a full service-line inventory by Oct. 16, 2024. The inventory must list every service line regardless of ownership and categorize lines as lead, galvanized (requiring replacement), unknown or non-lead.
Mecham said Midvale has completed its inventory and staff outlined follow-up responsibilities and replacement planning under the EPA framework. The council did not take formal action at this meeting but acknowledged the regulatory deadline and the need to incorporate replacements into capital planning and outreach to affected residents.
