Council approves Riverwalk zone change that removes several commercial uses

Midvale City Council on Sept. 17 approved a city-initiated zoning text amendment to clarify how the Riverwalk Zone interacts with adjacent zones and to remove a set of commercial uses from the Riverwalk Zone permitted-use list.
Planning Director Wendelin Knobloch explained that neighbors in the Bingham Junction area requested clearer rules and removal of uses they feared could harm nearby residences. The amendment clarifies that Riverwalk Zone regulations control in conflicts with the Bingham Junction Zone and deletes the following uses from the Riverwalk authorized list: Public Utilities (Major), fireworks stands, outdoor storage, automobile filling/repair/car wash, and warehouse/distribution. After discussion, the council approved Ordinance No. 2024-O-23 by a 4–1 vote.
