Surry County honors retiring county administrator Melissa Rollins with state and local resolutions

The Surry County Board of Supervisors presented a framed resolution and multiple community recognitions June 4 honoring County Administrator Melissa Rollins ahead of her retirement effective July 1.
Delegate Kimberly Pope Adams read a House commending resolution on behalf of the General Assembly, saying the resolution “commended Melissa Rollins” for “24 years of exemplary service” and noting she had been a patron of legislation set to take effect July 1. Rollins later told the board the recognition was “truly appreciated and is deeply humbling.”
Rollins used her remarks to thank county staff by name and to highlight accomplishments across departments. She praised deputy County Administrator DeLon Brown and interim County Administrator appointee David Harrison, saying Harrison’s “professional background and years of service have more than prepared you for the role come July 1.”
Board members from across the table echoed the thanks. Supervisor Elliott and Supervisor Drew each recounted working with Rollins over many years and said her leadership had strengthened county operations; Supervisor Elliot said Rollins had shown “integrity and veracity” while shepherding budgets and county projects.
The board’s presentation included additional community acknowledgments: a recognition from the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and a House resolution read by the delegate. Rollins closed by thanking her husband and county staff and saying she would remain “one of your biggest supporters.”
The board did not take any further personnel action during the meeting; Rollins’s retirement date and the interim appointment were announced publicly during her remarks.
