Commissioner of the Revenue details limited-scope 2025 reassessment changes, errors corrected

Jonathan Jenkins, the county's Commissioner of the Revenue, briefed the board on the 2025 limited-scope reassessment conducted under contract with Wingate appraisal services. Jenkins said the contract (signed 09/26/2024, effective 01/01/2025 with a 90-day extension) used bulk adjustments to improve sales-to-assessment ratios and did not include full property visits; some data-entry errors occurred during bulk edits and county staff have corrected those errors in the assessing software.
Jenkins said certain parcels (for example campgrounds and recreational mobile-home parks at Sunkenbetta Beach and Clermont Beach) had been miscategorized under state classification codes and were corrected to reflect residential rather than commercial use. He noted that reassessments are not perfect, that administrative appeals exist (assessor's hearings and board of equalization) and that a decision about a future full reassessment will need to be made.
Board members thanked Jenkins for the update; the commissioner said the county continues to work with Wingate on parcels that were sent back for review.
