The school presentation said state contributions would increase by $319,283, leaving a local funding need of $554,257 for full funding of the needs-based request.
Doctor Monroe (superintendent) and Miss Harvey (school budget lead) discussed priorities including teacher compensation, retention, and a five-year capital-improvement plan (including gym-floor replacement and switchgear work for the high school and elementary school). Harvey said the budget anticipated a 12% health-insurance increase but actual premiums rose 13.7%, which will require an additional $35,274 to hold employees harmless. "That increase...came back in at 13.7%. And in order to hold employees harmless, it will require an additional $35,274," Harvey said.
Board members asked about solar revenue and energy rates for the schools; Harvey said selling energy to the utility and buying it back had produced a net increase of about $126,000 in the current year's budget. The board will receive the county administrator's proposed budget next and later set tax rates and adopt a final county budget.
