A member of the volunteer group described services offered, including counseling referrals, a food pantry for clients and assistance for survivors. "We're just trying to make sure that they're not left, you know, alone to deal with," a volunteer said when outlining the group's goals.
Police representatives and committee members proposed creating a standard card or flyer with resource contacts that homicide detectives and other first responders would give to family members when leaving a scene. A committee member volunteered to design the flyer; another offered to cover the cost of printing if needed. The committee agreed to circulate the draft and seek community approval before distribution.
