The Surry County Planning Commission approved routine procedural items by voice vote: the meeting agenda and the minutes for Jan. 26 and Feb. 23 were adopted as presented. Commissioners then discussed three draft ordinances (historic-preservation overlay, AR-district amendments, and family-division rules) and directed staff to continue working on drafts, prepare a process flowchart for historic designations and reconvene the subdivision subcommittee for further discussion.
Chair closed the meeting with a motion to adjourn until June 22, 2026; the motion carried on a voice vote. No formal votes were recorded on any ordinance at the May 18 meeting; staff will return with revised drafts and public-hearing recommendations.
