Chairman Rudd presented an amendment to HB 17-43 to correct an unintended provision that could criminalize continued use of campaign signs paid for by a prior treasurer. He told the committee the bill "fixes an unintended error in state law" and said the change would prevent a candidate from being charged if a sign carries the former treasurer's name so long as committee registration requirements are met.
The committee voted to attach the amendment and then voted 7–0 to move HB 17-43 to the full committee. Legislators characterized the change as remedial: it clarifies compliance obligations for campaign committees and removes a potential misdemeanor exposure that staff described as an oversight in drafting.
